May 8th, 2010, Brentwood, CA

Each year the Lions Clubs in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties (California) invite over 1300 disabled/disadvantaged children from all over the Bay Area to a day of hot dogs and games.  Nothing is for sale and none of the kids is charged for taking part in the games and shows put on by the various clubs.  Everything is geared to those who have mobility and other issues.  This year, The Vikings of Bjornstad have been invited to set up our display and put on our Viking Art of War demonstration.  We're looking forward to a fun day.

Syttende Mai, Hayward, CA

E-mail Print PDF

May 14th, 2010, Hayward, CA

The Sons of Norway chapter in Hayward has invited The Vikings of Bjornstad to a Friday evening event called Syttende Mai.  (Norway's constitution was signed on 17 May, 1814.)  It's a very welcoming and appreciative group; this will be our second opportunity to join in their celebration.  We'll put on "The Viking Art of War" and display our arts, crafts and weaponry, then join in the potluck dinner.  This is inside their meeting hall, so no shade nor tents need be erected.

Our hostess, Irene Jordahl, has a request: "One thing people mentioned they would be interested in hearing about is the connection of the Vikings to the Scots and the Irish."  We'll be sure to discuss that aspect of history.
